FRAY GAME JAMs
FRAY World Game Jams are intensive 48-hour creation events that bring together developers, designers, artists, dancers and musicians to build new games from scratch. Working in teams, participants collaborate across disciplines to explore how gameplay, movement, sound and storytelling can intersect in unexpected ways.
Rooted in the wider FRAY universe, the jams are designed as spaces for experimentation rather than perfection. Ideas are tested quickly, roles blur, and new forms of collaboration emerge as participants respond to a shared brief. Whether coding mechanics, composing music, designing visuals or shaping narrative, each contribution feeds into a collective process where the boundaries between art forms begin to dissolve.
A key focus of the Game Jams is the relationship between embodied experience and digital interaction. Drawing on influences from dance and performance, participants are encouraged to think about movement as a form of input, storytelling and play. This opens up new possibilities for how games are built and experienced, moving beyond conventional formats toward more immersive and responsive systems.
At the end of each jam, teams present their prototypes to a live audience, sharing works-in-progress that capture the energy and ambition of the process. These showcases create a bridge between creators and audiences, offering insight into how ideas evolve and how different disciplines can come together to produce something new.
FRAY World Game Jams also act as a meeting point for a growing community working across gaming, performance and digital culture. They support skill-sharing, collaboration and experimentation, creating pathways for participants to develop their practice, connect with others and contribute to an expanding creative network.
Whether experienced as a participant or an audience member, the Game Jams offer a glimpse into the future of interactive storytelling — fast-paced, collaborative and shaped in real time.
We hosted the 2nd annual FRAY World Game Jam in 2025, featuring a week long contest where teams designed and built brand-new games inspired by music and movement themes. The final day featured an indie game showcase, industry panels, family workshops, and high-octane dance battle.
